Captivity in America could be traced all the way up back to colonial time times, or perhaps as historians have old; 1619. Although slavery got technically been abolished by late 1800's, issues over race continue to remained visible. Regulations such as " John Crow Laws”, that claimed to provide " separate yet equal” facilities, only helped to segregate minorities and treat all of them as second class residents. In response to such suppressive inequalities, america decided to pass the Detrimental Rights Act of 1964, outlawing main forms of discrimination against ethnic, ethnic, beliefs, and women. Around 1962, President Kennedy had introduced affirmative action, and in 1965 President Johnson began to said into impact. Affirmative Actions was designed to balance out some of the inequalities that were holding again minorities by opportunities to surpass in things such as; employment and school. Affirmative action was thought to be a temporary effort to correct inequalities that might, over time, disappear. However , here we are back in 2013 and affirmative action is still typically being enforced. Because of this, much controversy over its significance in our modern day society firmly exists.

While advocates may argue that Affirmative Actions is still needed, many believe that it is now counter productive. В Us citizens tend to be considered a highly competitive society, favoring an applicant due to their skin color, religious beliefs or ethnicity unfairly offers a boost to those that are competing on capability alone (Storey, 2011).
